Capture in a flash.
Screenshots & clips, zero friction.
Quicky is an original open-source macOS capture utility for fast screenshots and short screen clips. Capture, copy, rename, delete, and reveal — all close at hand, so quick visual notes never interrupt your flow.
Every capture, one keystroke away.
Full screen, exact area, or a recorded clip — Quicky stays out of the way until you need it, then gets out of the way again.
Full-screen snaps
Instant PNG of the whole display with a single global hotkey. Quicky hides itself during capture, so it never photobombs your shot.
⌘⌥1 · PNGFree-form area selection
A native crosshair overlay that captures exactly the region you drag. No auto-snapping, no fighting the tool — pixel-perfect, every time.
⌘⌥2 · EXACT REGIONZone clips
Short screen recordings of any region, powered by ScreenCaptureKit. Pause and stop from anywhere with global shortcuts.
⌘⌥R · SCREENCAPTUREKITLocal capture vault
Everything lands in ~/Pictures/Quicky. Browse, rename, copy, reveal, and delete from the sidebar or the detail view.
Customizable hotkeys
Every screenshot and recording action can be rebound. On-screen shortcut badges keep the current bindings visible next to each button.
GLOBAL SHORTCUTSClipboard-ready
Copy any snap straight to the clipboard and paste it into chats, docs, and issues. Menu bar controls keep everything one click away.
MENU BAR · ONE CLICKMuscle memory, by default.
The defaults below work system-wide from day one — and every one of them can be remapped in Settings.
Running in under a minute.
Quicky ships as a classic drag-to-Applications DMG. It is not Apple-notarized yet, so first launch takes one extra click.
Download the DMG
Grab the latest Quicky.dmg from GitHub Releases and open it.
Drag to Applications
Drop Quicky.app onto the Applications shortcut inside the DMG window.
Approve first launch
Run the bundled First Launch Quicky.command, or Control-click the app and choose Open. This only clears Gatekeeper quarantine.
Allow Screen Recording
Enable Quicky once in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Screen & System Audio Recording, then hit Refresh in the app.
# prefer the command line? same result: $ xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine \ /Applications/Quicky.app $ open /Applications/Quicky.app # build & run from source instead: $ git clone https://github.com/gianpmarc/Quicky.git $ cd Quicky && ./script/build_and_run.sh # requirements: macOS 13+ · Swift 5.9+
Your pixels never leave your Mac.
No accounts, no telemetry, no cloud sync. Quicky is a native Swift app that writes files to your disk — and that's the whole story.
- Local vault only. Captures live in ~/Pictures/Quicky as regular files you fully control.
- Silent permission checks. Refresh re-checks Screen Recording without re-prompting you.
- Open source, MIT. Every line auditable on GitHub — build it yourself if you prefer.
